Travel Tips
-
Rent a car if you want to fully explore Cabrera.
Many of the best beaches, lagoons, viewpoints, and hidden restaurants are spread out along the coast and easier to access by car. -
Bring cash — especially small bills.
While some places accept cards, many local beach spots, fruit stands, colmados, and smaller restaurants in Cabrera are cash only. -
Don’t expect a huge tourist scene.
Cabrera is peaceful, authentic, and less commercial than Punta Cana. That’s part of the magic. -
Explore the hidden beaches.
Take time to visit beaches near Río San Juan, Las terranas and Cabarete. -
Download maps before driving.
Cell service can get spotty on the north coast, especially on back roads leading to beaches and mountain areas. -
Visit local restaurants instead of only resort dining.
Some of the best meals come from family-owned spots serving fresh fish, local cacao, coconut desserts, and traditional Dominican dishes cooked over firewood. -
Pack for nature adventures.
Bring water shoes, bug spray, sunscreen, and light clothes. Between beaches, caves, rivers, and lagoons, you’ll likely spend most of your trip outdoors. -
Respect the local pace and culture.
Life in Cabrera moves slower and more intentionally. Relax, take your time, and enjoy conversations with locals. -
Plan a day trip to nearby gems.
The north coast is full of incredible spots within driving distance, including Cabarete, Las Terrenas, and Río San Juan. -
Wake up early at least once.
Sunrise in Cabrera is unreal. Early mornings are also the best time for empty beaches, calm ocean water, and seeing the town before the day starts.
